PROTECT KENT LAUNCHES NEW STOP BIG CAMPAIGN WEBSITE FOR WEST KENT

www.stopbig.org

Gemma Watts, Publicity Officer, Protect Kent

5 February 2010

Protect Kent has today launched a new website dedicated to it’s ‘Stop BIG’ campaign against a proposed major rail freight and aggregates interchange at a quarry site in West Kent. The 260 acre site is in the London Green Belt and threatens the tranquillity and rural landscape around Borough Green, Platt and Wrotham.

If you live in West Kent visit www.stopbig.org to find out the latest news, information, meeting dates and much more on the proposed development.

Protect Kent believes this BIG freight depot will NOT take a significant number of lorries off the road but it WILL destroy the beauty and character of this wonderful area of West Kent, in the Metropolitan Green Belt and close to the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Deputy Director Sean Furey said:

“Much of the land they want to build on is attractive, open countryside and the areas blighted by quarrying are legally required to be restored to agriculture and wildlife habitat. We want the quarry-owners to make good on their promises and restore the area for the benefit of everyone, instead of concreting over it.”
