Protect Kent helps local School fight for their Farm

TAKE ACTION: Sign up to the petition to save North School Farm

An outline planning application has been submitted to Ashford Borough Council, for the construction of 25 new houses, an access road, car parking and bin facilities – all on the site of a farm, run by pupils of The North School in Ashford.

Protect Kent is objecting to this application because of the impacts this development will have on the students at The North School and the wider local community.

Sean Furey, Deputy Director of Protect Kent said:

“We believe The North School Farm is of vital importance and an increasingly rare resource. It not only supports many parts of the school’s curriculum but plays a vital role in Kent’s rural economy and society.

“While the County Council may believe that they are making hard choices in difficult times, all they are in fact doing is realising a small amount of money at the cost of long term social, cultural and economic harm, not just in the immediate neighbourhood but the wider county as well.

“North School students who compete at the Kent County Show each year help inspire other young people to take an interest in farming and agriculture, which essential for all our futures.

“We sincerely hope Ashford Borough Council will resolve to reject this planning application so that the land being considered can remain within educational use”.
